Why Laos

Laos represents one of the last untapped frontiers for agribusiness investment in Asia. Rich in natural resources, strategically located, and now increasingly connected to regional markets, Laos offers unique advantages for long-term, impact-oriented capital.

Unlike other regions where agricultural investment funds have matured—such as Africa, India, or South America—Laos remains largely underserved by private investment, despite being ideally suited for sustainable agriculture. With low population density, vast tracts of arable land, and a climate well-suited for a range of high-value crops, Laos offers strong fundamentals for scalable, sustainable agribusiness.

Once considered landlocked, Laos is now becoming land-linked. With the completion of the China-Laos high-speed railway, and major infrastructure projects underway to expand roads and trade corridors, the country is better positioned than ever to serve as a regional agricultural hub. Laos shares borders with five countries—China, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Myanmar—opening doors to export markets that were previously inaccessible or cost-prohibitive.

To date, much of the development activity in Laos has been driven by donor-led NGOs or short-term aid projects, many of which struggled to deliver lasting impact. AgDevLaos is different. We are not a transient initiative or externally run experiment—we are a committed, in-country fund with a long-term view, driven by a team who live and raise families here.

Our founders have made Laos and Asia their home. We are invested not only financially, but personally—motivated to build something that lasts. We believe true success in development finance comes not from flying in for a few years, but from being rooted in the country, understanding the nuances of the land, people, and policy environment, and working patiently and strategically for lasting change.
